Commissioned by House Davion in 2777, the Enforcer was designed at the behest of John Davion to build up the AFFS. It was intended to use its superior range and solid firepower to either soften a target before an advance, or to blunt assaults moving into its engagement range.

Based on plans found in the engineering library at Achernar, it was redesigned from the originally planned pair of Medium Lasers in the left arm to the longer ranged and formidable Large Laser it now carries.[1]

Since that time, it has become a mainstay of the Federated Suns, serving as one of the premier Soldier 'Mechs for their military. It became the backbone of John Davion's build up prior to the 1st Succession War, and has stood the test of time.

Armament and Capabilities

Though the Enforcer relies heavily on barrage fire for its main engagement strategy, it serves its Soldier role fairly well. It can brawl despite its lack of hands, and the four McCloud Specials Jump Jets give it the mobility it needs for infighting. Solid forward armor gives it the ability to hold its own against most enemies, but its notably thin rear armor has always presented a vulnerability in the design.

The Government Weapon Works Federated Autocannon is a solid, large-caliber workhorse weapon. It is contained within a protective cooling jacket, which prevents it from being damaged when used as a club. Despite the gun's massive recoil, it doesn't struggle with aim due to the efficient compensation system that balances out its movements, permitting stable simultaneous fire of the lasers alongside it.

Early prototypes struggled with the ammo feeds, which would frequently jam, or even explode, taking the arm off completely. While the feed issue has since been resolved, the 10 volley ammunition capacity has severely limited the endurance of the Enforcer in the field. Efforts to increase the ammunition load resulted in either slowed movement or unreliable performance. This was mitigated by the addition of an easily accessed loading door, allowing for quick resupply of the bay.

Its mobility has marked the Enforcer a solid city fighter, making it difficult to pin down. It can easily hit and run, reloading as needed, then returning to continue the harassment action with impunity.

Models and Configurations

ENF-4C
An early variant of the Enforcer, the 4C carries an extra ton of ammo in the Right Torso. To facilitate this, the Engine had to be modified, the Small Laser removed, as well as half a ton of armor. While this uncommon design does see limited production runs, many MechWarriors were reluctant to strip away vital protection for the extra ammunition.

ENF-5D
As the Federated Commonwealth scrambled to refit its 'Mechs to meet the Clan Invasion, the Enforcer was slated for an upgrade. A more powerful Nissan 250 XL engine resolved many of the design's weight issues, allowing for an additional ton of ammo for the new Mydron Excel LB 10-X AC that replaced the old Federated system. The Large Laser was swapped for a BlazeFire Sweetshot ER Large Laser, and the armor protection was improved with both Ferro-Fibrous and CASE. A Jump Jet was added to round out the upgrade.

Notable 'Mechs and MechWarriors

Cyril Sombelbime
A Lieutenant in the 2nd Crucis Lancers, he led a lance of Enforcers during an offensive on Capra, where he famously issued the order to fire "until your cannon glows. If need be, until it explodes!". According to legend, his autocannon would indeed glow and explode, killing Sombelbime.

Colin McBurnham
A Scotsman through and through, Colin was known for his colorful swearing and the dark green, brown, and blue kilt colors of his Enforcer, the Bannockburn. He built a reputation for city fighting, including an ambush technique that allowed him to take out and drag away an enemy 'Mech in supposed silence from an alleyway, a skill his commander refused to believe until it was demonstrated in combat.

Sarah Nealson
A MechWarrior of the Davion Heavy Guards, she was well regarded for her height, beauty, and steely resolve in the face of enemy fire. She was remarked to have a devil's eye, and proved herself deadly accurate in many combats.
