Judith expands construction of Castles Brian on border worlds surrounding the Free Worlds League and the Capellan Confederation. As the Lyran Commonwealth and the Federated Suns are on good terms with the Hegemony, no interposing defenses are made between them. (1630p26)

The Wayfarer, an experimental double-hulled "Clipper"Jumpship launched on its maiden voyage. The brainchild of Baron Harold Voight, it would not appear at its intended destination and was listed as lost, along with its eccentric creator.

November: The Draconis Combine attacks the Commonwealth in full force, crossing over the Tamar Pact and making moves towards Terra. Commonwealth Archon, Alstair Marsden, requests aid from Lady Judith. She declines to send forces into direct conflict, but relieves Commonwealth military stationed on jointly controlled worlds, allowing the Commonwealth to concentrate their resources against the Combine. Hegemony Armed Forces' Third Assault Armored Division battles Combine forces on Lyons, their naval superiority granting them a costly victory. (1630p27)

Alstair Marsden dies, leading to his wife’s accession. House Marsden becomes House Steiner. (1630p27)

Holden Planetary Engineers is privatized from the Hegemony government, and would go on to terraform more than 300 worlds. (1630p164)

The Capellan Confederation takes advantage of ongoing strife and attacks Terra Firma. Despite prolonged resistance by the Black Charger Tank Division, opposition is forced to withdraw after two months. It is retaken by a large Hegemony force. Relations between the Hegemony and the Confederation grow bitter following the battles. (1630p27)

Edward Davion marries Rachel Masters, daughter of Virgil Masters of Numenor. She gives birth to Arthur Davion just a month before her death. (1623p31)
