Lucien Davion dies three months after retiring. He is succeeded as President of the Federated Suns by his younger brother Charles, who positions himself to also inherit the title of New Avalon’s Prime Minister. Charles famously revises military provisions of the Crucis Pact to create the Federated Peacekeeping Forces in an effort to streamline and improve efficiency of threat response. This results in a centralization of patriotic favor for New Avalon rather than individual worlds, and Avalonians are favored for positions of senior rank. (1623p19,22)

Shada Kurita announces to her heartbroken father her intention to attend the University of Pesht. In her first term there, she meets and falls in love with Charles Klein. A resulting pregnancy leads her father to fury at such dishonor. When she refuses to terminate the pregnancy, Shiro has her executed by firing squad, himself being the first to pull the trigger. A week following Shada Kurita’s death, her elder sister Omi Kurita begins the work to compose the Dictum Honorium. (1620p105)

Reynard Davion achieves the rank of Major as a member of the Federated Expeditionary Force. It is an award of merit rather than the nepotism commonplace among high ranking officials at the time. (1623p24)
January: Victor and Isaac Kurita find themselves overwhelmed by a massive defensive force while resting on New Bergen. They, along with their entire occupying forces, are slaughtered. Seizure of their weapons and equipment gives the Rasalhagians a leg up in resisting Combine offensives. Guerilla warfare persists for 30 years afterward. (1620p27)

July: General Rebecca Danforth levels criticism at Admiral Konrad McKenna for his decisions at Galatea and plans to invade Syrma. She is arrested and the plan proceeds. (1630p19)
July 23rd: The HAF Navy jumps to Syrma with intent to conquer the planet. They are unaware of a deal struck with the Federation of Skye. Twenty-seven troop ships and cargo transports are destroyed by mines and sleeper missiles, leaving only two intact. Six more vessels are lost as the second wave of ships arrive. (1630p19)
Admiral Konrad McKenna attempts to place blame on Vice-Admiral Harris Cather for the debacle, and holds an impromptu court-martial at the site of the disaster. (1630p19)
August: Director-General James McKenna arrives at Syrma. He strips his son of all ranks and privileges, then orders the fleet back to Terra. (1630p19)
The disaster at Syrma risks fracturing the Terran Hegemony. In response, James McKenna apologizes in a public address, and steps down as Director-General. Ten days later, he dies of cancer at 64 years of age. (1630p19)
