Lord Robert Davion, along with his young son, his sister Katherine Anne, and cousin, depart from Terra for New Avalon. He meets Suzanne Marsin, heiress to the planet’s iron and steel industry. Katherine completes her doctorate at New Avalon University, and marries Dr. Morton Conyers. (1623p14)

May: Several colony worlds, spearheaded by the planet Freedom, declare their independence from the the Terran Alliance. Due to distance, parliament does not receive the news for another eight months. Some sources mark this as the beginning of the Outer Reaches Rebellion in early 2236. (1630p10, 1620p16,17, 1623p8)

The Colonial Marines, a small task force deployed by the Expansionist party of the Terran Alliance, is deployed to the colonies in rebellion. Blockades are established and martial law enacted in urban areas. Secessionists take to rural areas and conduct guerilla warfare, to surprising success. Iceships are considered neutral and allowed to supply colony worlds, and crewmen aboard them serve as messengers for the secessionists. (1630p10, 1620p16,17)

The conflict spirals to more and more worlds. Alliance forces find themselves stretched thin and forced to withdraw from many planets. The Colonial Marines return in defeat, having failed to regain control of the colonies. The death toll on both sides measures in the hundreds of thousands. (1630p11, 1620p17)
The Terran Alliance Parliament puts increasing demands on loyal worlds to meet production needs for the war effort. New Avalon is no exception, to the point that their survival through winter months is in jeopardy. Governor-General Emil Varnay chooses to follow orders and collect the demanded quota, upon which the colonials rebel and take back the shipments by force, an event which is later known as the Grain Rebellion. Robert Davion sides with the New Avalon colonists, and establishes connections with the underground militants, the Sons of New Avalon. He gives the SNA access to positions, weaponry, and information on the Colonial Militia. He abandons his post hours before the Grain Rebellion. His sister Katherine leaves academia to pursue politics. The city charter Katherine drafts for Avalon City leads to unprecedented prosperity, eventually leading to New Avalon becoming capital of the Federated Suns. (1623p15,16)
